A socially awkward but very bright 15-year-old girl being raised by a single mom discovers that she is the princess of a small European country because of the recent death of her long-absent father, who, unknown to her, was the crown prince of Genovia. She must make a choice between continuing the life of a San Francisco teen or stepping up to the throne. While Mia makes up her mind, she's pressed into taking princess lessons from her grandmother.

Garry Marshall ( Pretty Woman) ha una certa capacità nel raccontare fiabe facendo finta che siano possibili. Mia ha 15 anni ed è il classico brutto anatroccolo presa in giro dai compagni di classe, ma la ragazzina conserva una sua serenità. Scoprirà che la regina vedova del principato di Genevia altri non è che sua nonna (non ha più il padre) e che si deve preparare a governare un regno. Tutto dovrebbe restare segreto ma i media si impadroniscono del caso e la ragazzina deve decidere che fare. Accettare o non accettare?
